Criteria for Submission of Materials for Inclusion on Web Site

Both members and nonmembers may submit articles and information to be considered for publication on this site. The site manager will determine the acceptability of submissions. The criteria set out below will be applied to all submissions in order to protect the society and the site manager (who technically owns this site) from complaints of any nature, legal or otherwise. Please read the following summaries of requirements, prohibitions and alternatives & suggestions BEFORE making a submission.

REQUIREMENTS APPLICABLE TO ALL SUBMISSIONS:

    • All submissions must be made via electronic submission.
    • All submissions must be accompanied by or transmitted with statements that provide the required certifications specified below.
    • All submissions must be error-checked, i.e. proof-read for grammar and spelling, before submission.
    • All submissions must be scanned in their entirety for computer viruses or worms and “cleaned” of any such contamination before transmission.
    • All submissions must have an obvious connection to Amite County.

PROHIBITIONS APPLICABLE TO ALL SUBMISSIONS:

    • No submissions of web page formatted information will be accepted, i.e., no html, asp, php, etc., formatting.
    • Similarly, no submissions that attempt to create a mirror version of other web sites or to secure web site storage space by linking from another site will be accepted.
    • No submissions that contain disguised personal opinion about any person, place, event or political or social condition will be accepted.
    • No submissions that contain advertising, i.e., overt or disguised solicitations to visit commercial web sites or encourage business with commercial enterprises, will be accepted.
    • No submission of portions of or entire web sites will be accepted.
    • No submissions in which the submitter solicits either to pay a fee for publication or offers to grant publication rights upon payment of a fee to the submitter will be accepted, i.e., the ACHGS and site manager will neither purchase publication rights nor sell publication space herein.
    • No submissions of information of whatever type will be accepted if the submitter cannot or does not certify whether the material is copyrighted and provide the appropriate clearance to the site manager and ACHGS to reproduce the material on this site without liability for royalty payment.
    • No submissions with sound (audio) files or motion picture files will be accepted.

SUMMARY OF ALTERNATIVES AND SUGGESTIONS:

    • Preferred method of submission is by e-mail with attachment(s) sent to site manager. Secondary acceptable method is sending of magnetic (floppy disc) or optical media (CD) by postal mail/delivery service to address shown here.
    • If any requirement or prohibition above or any alternative or suggestion below are not understood, request clarification by e-mail to the site manager BEFORE submitting anything for publication.

May use WinZip to compress groups of files that exceed 500 kb. For preformatted reports with images in critical placement, the main document should be written into an Adobe pdf file to preserve formatting.

Genealogy – Obituaries

The original source and date of publication of the obit must be given. Old obits from archives may be so characterized if original publication information is not known.
